The first league match of 2026 saw numerous Independence Blue Cross Achievements Unlocked as Philadelphia Union battled rivals D.C. United.
At halftime with the Union trailing by a goal, Head Coach Bradley Carnell brought on defensive reinforcements with defender Geiner Martinez getting his club and league debut. The 23-year-old Colombian replaced fellow newcomer Finn Sundstrom and played the rest of the road contest.
Martinez was signed to the Union in early February, joining from Uruguay’s CA Juventud.
