United States vs Parguay Recap

Philadelphia Union Homegrown goalkeeper Matt Freese gave Union fans another reason to follow the World Cup this weekend, helping the United States secure a convincing 4-1 win over Paraguay in its group-stage opener.

Also playing the full 90-minutes, Freese became the first ever Philadelphia Union Homegrown to compete in the FIFA World Cup.

Ivory Coast vs Ecuador Recap

Philadelphia was buzzing with excitement last night as Union base-camp guests Côte d'Ivoire secured a 1-0 victory over Ecuador at Philadelphia Stadium.

The majority of the match was filled with tension. Many goal attempts from both teams were unsuccessful and were rejected by the crossbar. That was until substitute Amad Diallo came on in the 56th minute. Immediately making an impact, Diallo scored a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner in the 90th minute, relieving the pressure for Les Éléphants.

Continuing their training at the Philadelphia Union’s facilities for the remainder of their campaign, the West African underdogs prepare for their next group-stage match against powerhouse Germany on Saturday, June 20th at Toronto Stadium.
