Cavan Sullivan, Frankie Westfield and Neil Pierre each made their senior national team debuts in the United States’ 4-1 victory over Peru.
Three Philadelphia Union Homegrowns reached the international stage together on Saturday, as Cavan Sullivan, Frankie Westfield and Neil Pierre each earned their first senior U.S. Men’s National Team caps in a 4-1 win over Peru in Orlando.
All three entered the September/October international window with the USMNT for the first time after earning their first senior call-ups together earlier this month.
Sullivan was the first of the trio to make his debut, earning a spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s Starting XI at just 16 years and 363 days old. With the start, Sullivan became the fourth-youngest player in modern USMNT history to earn his first cap. The Union midfielder played 62 minutes and was active in the attack as the U.S. went into halftime level at 1-1.
Westfield became the second Union Homegrown to make his debut when the 20-year-old defender entered in the 77th minute in place of Alex Freeman.
Ten minutes later, Pierre joined his fellow Homegrowns on the list of senior internationals, replacing George Campbell in the 87th minute to earn his first cap at 18 years old.
By the final whistle, Sullivan, Westfield and Pierre were among 11 players to make their USMNT debuts as the United States pulled away with three second-half goals to secure the 4-1 victory.
The afternoon also served as another showcase of the Philadelphia Union’s player development pathway. Former Union Homegrowns Matt Freese and Auston Trusty both started against Peru, meaning five players who came through the Union Academy appeared for the United States in the victory.
The match against Peru opened a four-game international window for the USMNT featuring friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada.
