Philadelphia Union forward Jack McInerney has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Month by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the month of May, the League announced today. This is McInerney’s second straight Player of the Month win, marking just the third time in MLS history that a player has won back to back Player of the Month honors.
McInerney currently leads the League in game winning goals with five and is tied for the lead in total goals scored with nine. After netting game winning goals in consecutive weeks against the Chicago Fire and another against the Montreal Impact, he set new single-season franchise records in game winning goals (four) and road goals (six).
The MLS Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at www.soccerreporters.com. The Union (5-5-3, 18 points) travel to Toronto tomorrow to take on Toronto FC at 6:00 p.m. on The Comcast Network.
