Philadelphia Union midfielder Michael Lahoud has been called up to the Sierra Leone National Team for a 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifying match May 18 against the national team of Swaziland, the club announced today. Lahoud and his squad will take on Swaziland at Somhlolo National Stadium in Lobamba, Swaziland in leg one of the first-round matchup.
The 27-year-old midfielder will depart for international duty following this weekend’s match versus D.C. United and will be unavailable for the Union’s upcoming matches against Sporting Kansas City (May 14) and New England Revolution (May 17).
This marks Lahoud’s second national team call up to his native Sierra Leone. He previously was selected to play in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match on Sept. 7, 2013 against Equatorial Guinea. Lahoud joined the Union in 2012 from Chivas USA and has since appeared in over 30 matches for the club.
