Philadelphia Union announced today that Rob Vartughian has been relieved of his duties as Assistant Coach and Technical Director.
“We thank Rob for all of his contributions over the past five years with this club and wish him nothing but the best,” CEO & operating partner Nick Sakiewicz said.
Vartughian joined the Union’s coaching staff in January of 2010, prior to the club’s inaugural season. Hired as an assistant and goalkeeper coach, Vartughian expanded his role in 2012 when he was named technical director. Before his time with the Union, he was an assistant coach at the University of Maryland, where he helped the school to seven-straight NCAA tournaments, two NCAA national championships and two ACC Championships during his tenure.
