All three Philadelphia Union Homegrowns featured for the second straight match as the USMNT defeated Chile, 4-2.
Philadelphia Union Homegrowns Frankie Westfield and Neil Pierre added another milestone to their young international careers on Tuesday night, earning their first senior U.S. Men’s National Team starts in a 4-2 victory over Chile in St. Louis.
Just three days after making their USMNT debuts alongside fellow Union Homegrown Cavan Sullivan against Peru, Westfield and Pierre were both named to Mauricio Pochettino’s Starting XI at Energizer Park.
Westfield started at right back and played 62 minutes before being replaced by Alex Freeman, while Pierre started in central defense and played 63 minutes before Chris Richards entered in his place.
Sullivan made it three Union Homegrowns to feature in the match when he entered for Sebastian Berhalter in the 83rd minute, earning his second senior international appearance.
The United States rallied in the second half to secure its second consecutive victory of the international window. After the sides entered halftime level at 1-1, Chile took the lead shortly after the break before goals from Julian Hall, Richards and Mathis Albert powered the Americans to a 4-2 win.
Westfield and Pierre were among six players to make their first USMNT starts on the night, helping comprise the youngest Starting XI of Pochettino’s tenure as U.S. head coach.
The appearance continued a memorable international window for the Union trio, with Sullivan, Westfield and Pierre each now earning multiple senior caps after entering camp without a USMNT appearance.
