Philadelphia Union midfielder Danley Jean Jacques made history on Saturday night, becoming the first active Philadelphia Union player to appear in a FIFA World Cup match as Haiti opened Group C play against Scotland.
Danley earned the start in midfield and helped Haiti battle throughout a tightly contested contest in its first World Cup appearance since 1974. Scotland found the breakthrough in the 29th minute through John McGinn and held on for a 1-0 victory despite Haiti's efforts to find an equalizer in the second half.
The appearance marked another milestone in the midfielder's career and added to Philadelphia Union's growing international legacy. Less than 24 hours after Union Homegrown Matt Freese became the first Union Homegrown to play in a FIFA World Cup match, Jean Jacques became the first active Union player to take the field at the tournament.
Haiti returns to action on June 19th against Brazil in its second Group C match.
