Homegrown defender earns fourth Team of the Matchday selection of 2026 after standout performance against Charlotte FC
Philadelphia Union Homegrown defender Neil Pierre has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 31, Major League Soccer announced today.
Pierre earned the recognition on his 19th birthday following a standout defensive performance in the Union’s 2-2 draw against Charlotte FC at Subaru Park, helping extend the club’s unbeaten run to 15 matches. The 19-year-old center back recorded career-bests in aerial duels (11) and clearances (6) which also led the club against Charlotte.
The selection marks Pierre’s fourth MLS Team of the Matchday honor of the 2026 season, following previous selections on Matchdays 19, 21 and 23.
The honor adds to a breakout campaign for Pierre, who has emerged as a key contributor in Philadelphia’s back line. The Homegrown defender recorded four goals and one assist this season while establishing himself as a regular starter.
The Union wrap up their October home slate on Saturday, Oct. 24, when they host the New England Revolution at Subaru Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
