Philadelphia Union is off to a hot start with two straight wins, and this weekend, they have another opportunity to establish early Eastern Conference dominance against New England Revolution on the road.
The team is set to visit Gillette Stadium on Saturday, March 8th, for a showdown against Head Coach Caleb Porter and his new-look team. Favorably for the Union, the hosts haven’t fared nearly as well so far, dropping points in their first two matches. New England opened the season with a scoreless draw in Nashville, then returned home for a 1-0 loss to Columbus Crew, while the Philadelphia Union have claimed back-to-back wins against Orlando City and FC Cincinnati.
The star of the show for the Boys in Blue has indisputably been 27-year-old Israeli striker Tai Baribo, who’s scored five of the team’s eight goals with a brace and a hattrick. His personal goal total in 2025 is more than 23 of the league’s 30 teams have scored in the same span. Kai Wagner and Quinn Sullivan have been in top form as well, playing the facilitators with a league-leading three assists each.
Under Head Coach Bradley Carnell's leadership, the team will look to put together another energetic, high-intensity performance -- this time against a Revs team that has talent, but appears slow to adjust to the influx of new personnel, including both international players and signings from within the league.
“It's a squad that has 18 new players. Obviously a very brutal and lethal strike force in [Leo] Campana and Carles Gil. They have [Luca] Langoni down there on the right hand side as one of the quickest players in the league,” Bradley Carnell said.
“In terms of transition and mitigating spaces and spaces to run into behind, we have to be wary of all of their weapons. They don't give much away either. The xG against is fourth best in the league, for example. They put a lot of pressure on the ball. I think it's going to be a very tight game, two very athletic teams going at each other. We respect the opponent very much, and I know exactly how difficult Caleb Porter’s teams are to play against.”
While Porter’s squad has yet to hit the back of the net in 2025, they’ve only allowed one goal, and Saturday will be a test for the Union’s attack. They've been near-unstoppable so far, and should Philadelphia Union add another three points to their total, it’d be the best start in team history.
