The Boys in Blue will be back at Subaru Park for another match at home on Saturday, taking on D.C. United for the first time in 2025. It all goes down at 4:30 pm -- tune in with MLS Season Pass on Apple TV to watch all the action.
Philadelphia Union will enter the match with newfound momentum, hosting D.C. one week after defeating Atlanta United in a dominant 3-0 shutout in front of a boisterous crowd of Union faithful. The energy in the stadium reflected what the team brought on the pitch, and Head Coach Bradley Carnell’s crew will look to build on that come Saturday before heading into their busiest month yet.
With the recent win, Philadelphia Union sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings with five wins, one draw, and three losses. As for the side from the nation’s capitol, D.C. sits in 13th place with two wins, three draws, and four losses. Their first victory came against Sporting Kansas City on March 8th, and they hadn’t won another until their most recent 2-1 outing against New York Red Bulls last weekend.
23-year-old forwar João Peglow scored both goals, but as has been the case for the past two seasons, Christian Benteke leads their side in scoring with five goals so far in 2025. Last year, he hit the back of the net 23 times by the end of the regular season, claiming Golden Boot honors as the top scorer across the entire league. Unfavorably for D.C., there’s a chance the 34-year-old striker won't be in the mix on Saturday, as he exited their most recent match in the 29th minute due to injury.
For Philly, Head Coach Bradley Carnell announced on Thursday that other centerback Ian Glavinovich, who's on the mend after undergoing meniscus surgery, the rest of his group is healthy and training.
“Ian Glavinovich is still progressing. Do really well in his rehabilitation and return to play. So pretty impressed with the way he's tracking right now. Other than that, I think we have good numbers in training and all are available,” Carnell said Thursday.
The only other player that won't be available for selection is 23-year-old Serbian midfielder Jovan Lukic -- he was shown a red card in the 56th minute of the team's win against Atlanta. He’s started every game so far in 2025, and without him, Carnelll and his staff will send out another never-before-seen Union starting XI.
The Union are unbeaten against D.C. United since 2015, and they have a chance to extend that streak in the second of the team's only two afternoon home games. Saturday is Kids' Day -- click here for tickets to watch the rivlary renew live at Subaru Park!
