Post-Match Quote Sheet
Bethlehem Steel FC vs. Saint Louis FC | June 15, 2019 – McCarthy Stadium, Philadelphia, Pa.
Bethlehem Steel FC
Head Coach Brendan Burke
On how his team started the match . . .

The first 25 minutes was some of the best possession-oriented and sharp transition play that we have seen from this group all year. The rest of the game was a lot of hard and high-IQ running from our midfielders and excellent box defending from the back four. We still managed to get some very good looks on the break against a team that eliminated the [Chicago] Fire from the [Lamar Hunt U.S.] Open Cup this week.

On what he saw from his team tonight . . .

We needed to have a breakthrough tonight and we did. To have an average age of 20 years old and perform in such a mature way is a testament to the quality of the development happening here each week and the mentality of these kids.

Midfielder James Chambers
On what he saw from his team during the match . . .

You summed it up there in the question. I think we showed a bit of fight that we haven’t probably shown in a couple of weeks. Louisville [City FC] we showed it and we got a point, but we need to understand what we need to do on a weekly basis and that’s a good result against a decent team coming off a great win against Chicago [Fire] on Wednesday night.

On what was working in the attack tonight . . .

I think ball speed. We moved the ball very quickly and we were all in good spots. I think the people who were on the field tonight wanted the ball you know, especially when we had eleven men. We had the ball and we were very, very good with it. We looked dangerous and got some really good goals.

On tying the club’s all-time scoring record . . .

Yeah well, it took Cory two years and it’s taken me almost four, so I think I’m here. I’m good for three or four a year so it’s nice, but listen it’s not that, to be honest. It’s not that big of a deal. The main thing honestly is the three points and the performance. You know the boys are buzzing, it’s been a tough couple of weeks for us as a group and we’ve bounced back tonight with a good performance, which is the main thing, as well as the three points.

Midfielder Zach Zandi
On tonight’s match . . .

It was a really gritty performance I think. It was a great team effort, we went up three-nil, but we were down a man obviously, so it was going to be difficult for the rest of the game. I think defensively, as a team, we really stuck in and we did what was needed to get the three points.

On things clicking in the attack tonight . . .

I think when we had the opportunities to go forward we were clinical with it and it was at a fast pace. Things were done in one and two touches and that really allowed us to open up [Saint Louis FC’s] defense that was so hard to score on.

On his two assists tonight . . .

Anything I can do to help the team win is good and that’s what I was able to do. I’m happy to get the two assists, but more importantly the three points is the bigger deal.
