Rooted in Community: A Greener Chester with U-Serve

Together, they planted 30 trees at Barry Bridge Park and cleared debris around the Union campus—transforming our local community spaces.

Beautifying Chester: Growing Change at Edgmont Scholars Academy

In partnership with Subaru of America and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Philadelphia Union joined students at Edgmont Scholars Academy to revitalize raised garden beds with flowers and fresh vegetables. Through hands-on planting and guided lessons in plant care, students learned how growing their own items can strengthen their community and combat food insecurity.

Stetser Elementary students learn sustainability at Garden for Good at Subaru Park

As part of Philadelphia Union's Greener Goals initiatives, students from Stetser Elementary School students toured the "Garden for Good at Subaru Park" where they learned how to pick and plant produce while also discovering the sustainable benefits of the garden. Philadelphia Union partner Hoffman’s Exterminating also provided an educational session on bugs that are beneficial to the garden before releasing them into the planters.

The “Garden for Good” came to fruition at Subaru Park in 2020 as part of an initiative to combat local food insecurity during the pandemic. The garden is maintained by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Subaru employee volunteers and is Chester’s first sustainable and organic garden.
