Philadelphia Union Announcing Signing of 2024 Special Olympics Unified All-Stars

A highlight of each season is the Special Olympics Unified Sports All-Star Game and Philadelphia Union are excited to announced the club will be sending Elijah Reed and Juliana Zacarias to Columbus for All Star 2024.

Students, faculty and staff gathered at George Washington High School to congratulate Elijah and Juliana and watched as the duo signed their official Philadelphia Union Unified contracts to secure their spots for the All Star Game.

Every year one Special Olympics athlete and one Unified partner are selected to represent their MLS club during MLS All-Star Week. The experience culminates in a competitive Special Olympics Unified All-Star match.

Philadelphia Union's Special Olympics Unified Sports All-Star Elijah Reed had a standout performance in Columbus, getting the start and finding the back of the net in a memorable experience.

Reed was in the Starting XI for the Eastern Conference side and made the most of his minutes with a tremendous finish in first half stoppage time. The George Washington High School student took a forward pass and raced into the box where he saw his initial shot saved by the keeper. Reed maintained his composure to get his footing back for a second attempt with the keeper out of position and buried it before the halftime break.

The emotion of the moment was evident from the very beginning as the forward raced to his team bench for the whole Eastern Conference squad to celebration with a memorable moment of the contest.

Union host Unified Signing Day at Subaru Park

Tuesday was a special day at Subaru Park as the Philadelphia Union welcomed 16 players to the blue and gold family as part of the club’s Special Olympics Unified team.

Alongside centerback Jack Elliott, the athletes put pen to paper, making their Philadelphia Union deals official at a celebratory signing day ceremony in the Primepoint Legends Lounge.

Union Front Office completes inclusivity and allyship training

With a commitment to to facilitating safe spaces for all fans to enjoy Philadelphia Union games and events at Subaru Park free from discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, the entire front office staff completed inclusivity and allyship training. As part of the training that took place ahead of the Union's Pride Night members of the Union staff met to discuss and learn how they can be a better ally.

At the end of the training members of staff were given Safe Space pins that will be worn throughout the season to let fans know they have successfully completed inclusivity and allyship training. In addition to the pins the staff wore Pride shirts courtesy of Subaru.
