World Cup 2026

Danley Jean Jacques becomes first active Philadelphia Union player to play a FIFA World Cup

WC1-DJJ

Midfielder Danley Jean Jacques made history on Saturday evening as he took to the pitch for Haiti’s FIFA World Cup opener against Scotland.

Not only was the midfielder earning his 31st cap for Les Grenadiers, Danley became the first active member in the Philadelphia Union history to take to the pitch on the world’s biggest stage.

The 26-year-old signed with the Boys in Blue in the summer of 2024, making his club debut against Columbus Crew in a Leagues Cup Semifinal match. In MLS play, Danley has made 53 appearances for the club overall, contributing five goals and three assists.

After today’s match, Danley could reach another impressive milestone in their next Group C match as Haiti faces off against South American powerhouse Brazil in Philadelphia on Friday, June 19th. An appearance by the midfielder would put him on a small list of players to play a FIFA World Cup match in the same city as his club team. Haiti concludes Group C play against Morocco on Tuesday, June 23rd.
