Philadelphia Union II fell 2-0 on Monday night to Côte d'Ivoire in a tune-up international friendly at Subaru Park.
Côte d'Ivoire came out on the attack, but Philadelphia answered early in the 2nd minute with a save. Les Éléphants broke through in the 9th minute when winger Evann Guessand scored to give Ivory Coast a 1-0 lead.
Philadelphia Union II nearly responded with a goal of their own as homegrown Eddy Davis III created a solid chance but saw his effort go over the crossbar.
The intensity grew as both teams entered the second period, with Ivory Coast achieving a goal from striker Bonny Yoan at the 40-minute mark from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 for Les Éléphants.
Côte d'Ivoire threatened twice more in front of goal, but Union Academy amateur goalkeeper Jojo Elliot came up with key saves to prevent Les Éléphants from adding to their advantage.
Despite the 2-0 result, Union II gained valuable experience against one of Africa's top national teams as Côte d'Ivoire prepares for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Philadelphia Union II will face New York City FC II on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 3:00 PM ET, with the match available to watch on OneFootball.
